The drapes pictured below are an example as to why it is so vitally important to use Flame Retardant fabric for all drapes in public venues or places of public assembly
These drapes were installed in a public venue foyer in Christchurch, NZ in 2008 and were manufactured by John Herber Ltd using Flame Retardant Totaline blackout fabric. They were deliberately set alight by a member of the public with the intent to cause damage, and as you can see, fortunately FIRE did not take hold and just self extinguished as is was supposed to do.
The venue in question can hold up to 3,000 people at any one time and if this fire was able to take hold it could have been badly damaged, destroyed completely or even worse, there could have been loss of life.
