John Herber Ltd is a
family Business with family values. In 1979 was bought into
by Graeme & Diane Philip as John Herber himself was looking
to retire. John Herber was a Canvas Fabricator who learnt
his trade during WW2. He was heavily involved & had an
interest in Theatre, and so would use his skills to
manufacture Backdrops & drapes for local theatres.
Since Graeme & Diane become involved in 1979 the business
has grown into the leading theatre drape manufacturer in New
Zealand. After John passed away, the name John Herber Ltd
was kept out of respect and because this name was already
known throughout New Zealand in the theatre industry.
In 1985 Mark Philip joined the company fresh from school and
took up a Canvas fabrication apprenticeship. In 1995 Mark &
his wife Tania bought a 3rd share in the company. Since
completing his apprenticeship in 1989 Mark has trained all
other staff who have joined John Herber Ltd.
We have an extensive portfolio which includes Theatres, TV &
Movie Studios, Community Halls, Schools and Cinemas
throughout New Zealand, and also Fiji and Rarotonga.
